During the event, attendees presented Cuban Ambassador Damian Cordero with signatures for the global “I Sign for Cuba” campaign, a symbolic gesture of the Pakistani people’s support for the Cuban people’s struggle against the U.S. blockade.
Additionally, members of the Mazdoor Kisan Party (Workers and Peasants Party) and the Progressive Students Federation—united by their shared solidarity with Cuba—expressed their rejection of the genocidal U.S. blockade, according to the Cuban embassy in Pakistan.
The occasion also served to celebrate Cuba’s recent victory at the United Nations against the U.S. government’s blockade and was part of the activities marking the centenary of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the 73rd anniversary of the attack on the Moncada Barracks—observed in Cuba as the Day of National Rebellion.
In their remarks, several participants emphasized the need to extend solidarity to Cuba—now more than ever—describing the country as an example and a living embodiment of the virtue that elevates the human spirit.
For his part, the Cuban ambassador reiterated his gratitude for Pakistan’s vote in favor of Cuba at the UN General Assembly in New York.
He also detailed the damage caused by the energy blockade, the near-daily sanctions, and the unilateral coercive measures affecting the Cuban people—all consequences of the current U.S. administration’s obsessive and ruthless policy.
The event was marked by the characteristic passion of young people and the loyalty of workers and peasants, who joined together at various moments to chant in support of Cuba and against the blockade—in both Urdu and Spanish—the diplomatic source noted.
