Presidents of South Korea and Chile to meet at La Moneda Palace

Santiago, Chile, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) South Korean President Lee Jae-myung will be received on Thursday by his Chilean counterpart, Jose Antonio Kast, at La Moneda Palace, to discuss issues such as economic ties, trade, security, and Antarctic cooperation.

A central point of the Asian leader’s visit is the renewal and updating of the bilateral Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which took effect on April 1, 2004.

Lee aims to incorporate global digital trade rules, artificial intelligence (AI), and clean technologies into the agreement.

Seoul considers it relevant that Chile is among the countries with the largest reserves of strategic minerals, such as lithium and copper, essential for the global energy transition, electromobility, and modern technologies.

Both countries also play a significant role in developing the aerospace industry and defense, and this will be discussed during the talks at La Moneda Palace.

The South Korean president is on a tour that began in the United States and continued in Brazil, where he held a bilateral meeting with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

After concluding his visit to Chile, Lee will travel to Argentina and then return to his country.
