German airline LEAV Aviation informed that an Airbus A320-200 took off from Düsseldorf Airport and landed at Damascus International Airport, marking the first direct flight between the two countries during that period.
German Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Kathrin Deschauer explained that the air transport agreement signed by Berlin and Damascus on July 16 establishes the legal framework for restoring direct air links.
Deschauer noted during a press briefing in Berlin that the agreement allows commercial airlines to operate direct flights between Germany and Syria and is a key element of the Joint Action Plan.
The official remembered that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa visited Berlin in March, and both sides agreed to this cooperation plan.
