“The economic and social implications of this collective punishment are unbearable,” stated Diaz-Canel, detailing how the blockade has affected the national power grid, paralyzed production processes, impacted tourism, and jeopardized the lives of patients in intensive care.
The president noted that thousands of containers carrying medical supplies, food, photovoltaic equipment, and parts for power plants are being held up in ports due to threats against shipping companies.
He underscored that the executive order of May 1, 2026, threatens foreign individuals and companies with secondary sanctions if they maintain commercial ties with Cuba, and that Cuban medical cooperation is being targeted based on falsehoods in an effort to eliminate a major source of funding.
“We’re witnessing the most extensive and profound pressure exerted on a country by the planet’s greatest power,” the Cuban president declared.
He further warned that the neo-fascist regime installed in the United States is repeating “some of the errors that, in the first half of the 20th century, unleashed German fascism in its expansionist drive.”
He rejected the use of xenophobia, lies as instruments of domination, and collective punishment inflicted upon large human populations as defining characteristics of this regime.
