The PT informed that the event will take place at the Expocenter Norte pavilion, with the participation of party leaders, governors, members of parliament, and candidates from the 27 federal units.
The political organization will formally nominate the Lula-Alckmin formula for the October presidential elections, in which the current president will seek a fourth term.
The PT stated that the candidacy will have the support of seven forces that make up Brazil’s progressive movement: the PT, the Communist Party of Brazil, and the Green Party (united in the Brazil of Hope Federation), as well as the Socialism and Liberty Party, the Sustainability Network, the Brazilian Socialist Party, and the Democratic Labor Party.
The group stressed that this will be the first time, since the restoration of the direct presidential elections in 1989, that these seven organizations have run together behind a single candidate from the first round.
Following the formalization of his candidacy, the first public campaign event will take place on August 16 at the Vila Euclides stadium in Sao Bernardo do Campo, where Lula began his career as a union leader in late 1970s.
