India-China cross-border trade resumes

New Delhi, Aug 2 (Prensa Latina) Cross-border trade between India and China has resumed through Shipki-La, in the Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh, after a six-year gap, official sources confirmed.

As a validation of this important step in normalizing relations between the two nations, Indian Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi opened the Chhupan trade market in Namgya, a rural border area located in the Pooh subdivision of the Kinnaur district.

To mark the occasion, a group of 17 traders was given the signal to begin cross-border trade.

Foreign Minister Vikram Misri and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Hua Chunying met in Beijing in the last few days to discuss ways to restore their ties as partners with mutual development opportunities in trade, the economy, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.

Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted on social media that the two officials analyzed the full range of relations between their countries and acknowledged the importance of keeping peace in bilateral border areas.
