Iraq, Iran discuss reopening Strait of Hormuz and reducing tensions

Baghdad, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) The foreign ministers of Iraq, Fuad Hussein, and Iran, Abbas Araghchi, discussed the situation in the Strait of Hormuz and the efforts aimed at reopening this strategic waterway.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry stated that both ministers discussed, during a phone conversation, the events of the last two days and their repercussions on maritime navigation, security, and regional stability.

Hussein welcomed the return to dialogue and diplomacy as the best way to resolve differences and assured that Baghdad is closely monitoring the situation.

The head of Iraqi diplomacy expressed his hope that the talks would lead to agreements to reopen the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, thus preserving regional security and the stability of the global economy.

The Iraqi diplomat also emphasized the importance of maintaining open communication and coordination between the two sides, as well as supporting efforts to reduce tensions and foster dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Araghchi, in turn, briefed his counterpart on the ongoing negotiations and talks aimed at reaching agreements that will contribute to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and ensure the smooth flow of maritime traffic.
