In a message posted on the social network X, the Foreign Minister emphasized that neither the Secretary of State “nor his corrupt colleagues” believe that accusation, which he labeled a “fanciful pretext for military aggression that would cause a bloodbath for Cuban and US citizens.”
“Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is,” Rodriguez declared, reiterating that the true threat to the region is the policy of collective punishment imposed by Washington against the island.
Rodriguez’s statement follows his recent address to the National Assembly of People’s Power, where he warned that the US government “has made the decision to violate and destroy international law” and has intensified to the extreme the economic war and collective punishment against Cuba.
On that occasion, the Foreign Minister denounced that Washington has “tightened the energy stranglehold to the maximum” and stifled the island’s possibilities for commercial interaction with other countries.
The diplomat also noted that the international community overwhelmingly rejects the blockade, as demonstrated by the vote on July 7 in the UN General Assembly, where more than a hundred countries supported holding an urgent debate on the consequences of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.
