Consul praises work of the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina

Buenos Aires, Aug 3 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Consul in Argentina Misleidys Reyes commended the work of the Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA), highlighting its role as a catalyst for initiatives and the community's activities over the past 26 years.

The diplomat addressed the organization’s review assembly—currently led by Erenia Garcia—where the work carried out from 2022 to the present was evaluated.

Gathered at the House of Friendship with Cuba, attendees also endorsed the candidacies of nine members who will meet soon to select the Union’s leadership.

The URCA was established on September 16, 2005, with the aim of keeping Cuban cultural traditions and patriotic sentiment alive, assisting community members, and fostering ties of solidarity with their country of origin.

During the period under review, the URCA reaffirmed its role as a bridge of solidarity and a “trench of ideas,” providing immediate, organized responses to emergencies and channeling concrete aid and supplies, the Consul noted.

It has also raised its voice unequivocally—she emphasized—in opposition to the economic, commercial, financial, and energy blockade imposed by the United States, as well as the unilateral coercive measures attempting to suffocate Cuban families.

The Consul outlined that the island is facing complex challenges caused by the intensification of the blockade and external aggression, yet it is also immersed in a profound process of transformation and economic and institutional innovation.
