Lula leads in positive image among Brazilian presidential candidates

Brasilia, Aug 7 (Prensa Latina) President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva holds the most positive image among contenders for the Brazilian presidency, according to an AtlasIntel/Bloomberg poll that also assessed government measures and economic perceptions.

The survey points that 48 percent of respondents hold a positive view of the head of state—who will seek re-election in the October vote—while 52 percent view him negatively and one percent expressed no opinion.

Among key opposition figures, Senator and presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro garnered a 37 percent positive rating and a 59 percent negative rating.

Meanwhile, former Minas Gerais Governor Romeu Zema recorded a 31 percent positive rating and a 55 percent negative rating, while former Goias Governor Ronaldo Caiado obtained 28 percent and 51 percent, respectively.

Another hopeful for the Planalto Palace, businessman Renan Santos, was the least known among those evaluated, with 26 percent of respondents stating they had no opinion about him.

The study also asked which of the Lula administration’s decisions were considered its greatest successes.

Topping the list was the provision of free medicines and supplies under the *Farmacia Popular* (Popular Pharmacy) program, backed by 82 percent of respondents, followed by the income tax exemption for those earning less than 5,000 reais per month, with a 79 percent approval rate.

Additionally, the trade agreement between the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) and the European Union received 68 percent support; the *Desenrola* debt renegotiation program, 65 percent; and the elimination of the so-called “blusitas tax” (a levy on low-value online imports), 55 percent.
