Brazil’s TSE to judge use of “deepfakes” in elections

Brasilia, Aug 11 (Prensa Latina) Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) is preparing to rule on the use of content generated with artificial intelligence (AI) in the 2026 campaign, in a process considered key to regulating so-called "deepfakes."

TSE President Kassio Nunes Marques will meet with the members of the electoral court to analyze a lawsuit filed by the Workers’ Party (PT) against a video generated using AI.

The video, shown during the event that officially launched Senator Flavio Bolsonaro’s presidential candidacy, digitally reproduced the image and voice of former President Jair Bolsonaro, currently under house arrest.

The video included an explicit warning that it was generated using AI and showed the former president expressing support for his son’s candidacy for the Planalto Palace.

The expectation is that the court will decide at Wednesday’s meeting to include the case on its agenda for the week of August 17, when the official campaign for the October general elections will begin.
