Iran conditions reopening of Strait of Hormuz on US demands

Tehran, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), affirmed that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States changes its stance and accepts the conditions set by Tehran.

During a meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Iran, Zhong Peiwu, Rezaei stated that Washington must end the war against his country, release frozen Iranian assets, and contribute to ending the conflicts in the region, particularly in Lebanon and Gaza, IRNA noted.

The official stated that other Iranian demands were conveyed to the United States through intermediaries and specified that any possible agreement between Tehran and Oman regarding transit through the Strait of Hormuz must be analyzed independently of the strait’s closure.

Zhong expressed Beijing’s opposition to military strikes on Iran and reiterated his country’s support for strengthening relations between the West Asian states and the Arab nations of the Gulf.

Regional tensions have persisted since the beginning, in late February, of the conflict between the United States and Israel against Iran, without Tehran and Washington having reached a definitive agreement to end hostilities.
