Investigation on French ambassador’s sexual conduct in Africa

Paris, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) France is awaiting a decision from Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot regarding the ambassador to the Central African Republic (CAR), Bruno Foucher, who is implicated in a matter involving the solicitation of sexual services.

A Foreign Ministry investigative commission was tasked with verifying reports from the embassy’s security staff in the CAR concerning conduct—specifically inviting young women for sexual purposes—deemed incompatible with diplomatic service.

An inquiry was launched by the Foreign Ministry in Bangui, the CAR capital, to examine disciplinary infractions by Foucher following a report in the satirical newspaper *Le Canard enchaine*.

According to the newspaper, it is suspected that between January 2024 and March of this year, the ambassador invited nearly 30 young women, aged 20 to 30, to private apartments in Bangui.

During questioning conducted as part of an inquiry between April 7 and 10, the diplomat claimed the women were students to whom he was trying to offer academic support.

He stated that he provided them with access to his library and a collection of feature films. He reportedly paid for the studies of one of the young women, according to AFP.

Ultimately, during the investigation, Foucher admitted to having sexual relations with at least two of the invited women.

Faced with the official’s improper behavior, the gendarmerie unit responsible for embassy security had to intervene and report the situation, the agency noted.

A decision from Barrot is currently pending; speculation by local television suggests options could include a formal reprimand, dismissal from the civil service, or forced resignation.
