Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and Brad Cooper, commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), ratified this commitment during a meeting held in Baghdad.
The statement noted that both parties confirmed the agreement reached to end the coalition’s military mission and complete the withdrawal of its forces within the stipulated period.
Al-Zaidi stated that October 1 will mark the beginning of a new era for Iraq, free from foreign military presence and with full sovereignty over its territory.
The head of government also indicated that the country will continue to strengthen its military and security capabilities to preserve internal stability and protect its borders.
Baghdad and Washington agreed during the meeting that bilateral relations will advance toward a phase of cooperation and partnership in the economic, development, and security spheres, based on mutual respect for sovereignty and common interests.
