Erdogan reaffirms Turkiye’s support for Palestinian cause

Ankara, Aug 13 (Prensa Latina) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan affirmed that his country will continue to defend the Palestinian cause in all international forums and reiterated its support for the two-state solution.

During a joint press briefing with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas following talks held in Ankara, Erdogan stated that Turkiye will continue working, in partnership with the Palestinian side, for establishing an independent Palestinian State within the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The Turkish president accused the Israeli government of maintaining illegal practices in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, and denounced the expansion of the occupation, forced displacement, and the appropriation of Palestinian lands.

According to the Turkish head of State, United Nations data shows that thousands of Palestinians have been displaced this year alone due to settler violence, demolitions, and forced evictions, while dozens lost their lives.

Erdogan considered that those actions are part of a strategy aimed at weakening the Palestinian presence in their own territory and underscored that the existence of a sovereign Palestinian State cannot be ignored.
