Italy pays tribute to Fidel Castro on his 100th birthday

Rome, Aug 14 (Prensa Latina) The Rome Circle of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (ANAIC) paid tribute to the Cuban revolutionary leader, Fidel Castro, on his 100th birthday, with events at iconic locations in the city.

A statement noted that ANAIC members displayed images of Fidel Castro, along with panels commemorating the date at the Colosseum, the Garibaldi Square, Via dei Fori Imperiali, Ponte Sant’Angelo, the Mural against the US Blockade on Cuba, and the Jose Marti Monument, among other sites.

The text points out that the initiative included photos of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, “a central figure in the history of Cuba and the world,” accompanied by panels about the date and condemning the genocidal economic blockade imposed by the United States against the island.

During the presentations held in Havana that day to celebrate Fidel’s 100th birthday, the legacy of “a giant of history, a man of profound moral integrity and extraordinary vision for the future” was highlighted.

The statement adds that Fidel’s vision of building a better world, free from growing inequality, hatred, and war, founded on cooperation among peoples, altruism, and mutual respect among nations, “stands today as one of the highest aspirations.”
