The decision was adopted on Thursday by TSE President Kassio Nunes Marques, who ordered an investigation into the irregularities and temporarily suspended the process to prevent further attempts at the illegal alteration of records.
The court noted that Liberal Party (PL) presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro’s affiliation in the Mission party was obtained fraudulently.
Following a request from the PL, Nunes Marques ordered an investigation into the case and reinstated the politician’s affiliation in that organization.
The TSE also identified an attempt to alter the party affiliation of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is seeking to be reelected by the Workers’ Party (PT).
The TSE stated that, unlike what occurred with Bolsonaro, whose party affiliation was temporarily changed, in the case of the president, the change was not finalized.
