The activist told Prensa Latina that the gathering brought together people involved in solidarity initiatives with the island and served to reflect on the legacy and enduring relevance of the Commander-in-Chief’s (1926-2016) ideas.
During the event, two videos about Cuba and in tribute to Fidel Castro were screened as part of a broad, worldwide commemoration.
Participants also exchanged views on the current reality of the largest of the Antilles and the challenges it faces due to threats of military aggression from the United States and the negative effects of an energy blockade.
As part of the event, Diniz added, informational materials were distributed regarding the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by successive U.S. administrations for over six decades.
The organizers of the initiative described this policy by Washington as a pressure mechanism that directly affects the Cuban population and demanded its removal.
One of the highlights of the day, Diniz emphasized, was the collection of medicines for Cuba, which, she noted, “we are going to send as quickly as possible.”
