“Today marks the anniversary of the founding of the first Communist Party, which did so much to sow ideas that took root among our people—and especially in Fidel (Castro) and Raúl (Castro),” Morales wrote on his X social media profile.
The PCC’s official account also recalled that on August 16, 1925, prominent Cuban patriots such as Carlos Baliño and Julio Antonio Mella founded the first Communist Party of Cuba, an organization that played a significant role in the nation’s political and social struggles.
On the same platform, the PCC shared an excerpt from a speech delivered by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on the occasion of that political organization’s 50th anniversary.
“Throughout its 36 years of struggle, that Party left countless martyrs in its wake: during the Machado era, the Batista era, the era of the corrupt governments of Grau and Prío, and the final stage of Batista’s bloody tyranny,” the revolutionary leader noted at the time.
Fidel Castro also highlighted the legacy of the organization’s key leaders and members, remembering: “This was the Party of Mella, Ruben Martinez Villena, Jesus Menendez, Jose Maria Perez, Paquito Rosales, and countless other martyrs.”
Commemorating this anniversary highlights the historical trajectory of the organization founded in 1925 and its influence on the development of revolutionary ideas in Cuba.
