The region’s Counterterrorism Service reported that the drones, identified as Heidel-110s, were launched from Iranian territory and reached the Pirmam area, also known as the Salahaddin resort, located about 30 kilometers north of Erbil.
The agency described the events as unacceptable attacks and violations and warned that those responsible will have to face the full consequences.
Barzani also condemned the attack and stated that, according to investigations by the Directorate of Counterterrorism, both his personal office and the residence of the head of security were targeted by Iranian drones.
The regional prime minister considered the incident a dangerous escalation and a direct threat to the security and stability of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Barzani also asserted that these attacks would not prevent regional authorities from continuing their duties and protecting the population.
So far, Iran has not commented on the accusations. The incident comes amid the repercussions of the conflict between Iran, the United States, and Israel, marked in recent months by exchanges of attacks and regional tensions.
