Nicaragua’s Co-Presidents Lead Ceremony for 46 years of Naval Force

Managua, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Nicaragua's co-presidents, Daniel Ortega and Rosario Murillo, presided over the main ceremony marking the 46th anniversary of the founding of the Nicaraguan Army Naval Force.

During the ceremony, the head of the Naval Force, Rear Admiral Angel Eugenio Fonseca, received plaques of recognition from various organizations and the Association of Defense Attaches accredited in Nicaragua in honor of the institution’s anniversary.

Naval Merit medals—First and Second Class—were also awarded to several officers for the successful completion of assigned tasks.

The decorations were presented by Co-President Daniel Ortega, accompanied by the head of the Nicaraguan Army, General Julio Cesar Aviles.

Speaking at the event, Fonseca highlighted the ongoing execution of the “General Augusto C. Sandino Peace and Sovereignty Mission” Strategic Plan through operations in the Caribbean and Pacific seas, as well as the Gulf of Fonseca, within the national maritime zones defined by the International Court of Justice.

The naval chief emphasized that, through various plans approved by the Nicaraguan Army high command and the deployment of forces and assets across maritime zones, lakes, rivers, and coastal areas, the institution contributes to ensuring the security, stability, tranquility, and peace of the population.

The institution was founded on August 13, 1980, under the name Sandinista Navy, and adopted its current designation—Nicaraguan Army Naval Force—in 1995.
