Cubans in Nicaragua reaffirm defense of the island’s sovereignty

Managua, Aug 22 (Prensa Latina) The "Antonio Maceo" community of Cubans residing in Nicaragua reaffirmed its commitment to defending the island's sovereignty, dignity, and independence, and demanded an end to the blockade currently imposed by the U.S. government.

In a statement released on social media, the organization denounced the intensification of the United States’ policy of strangulation against Cuba, as well as the sanctions and financial measures that, it noted, aim to harm sovereign nations.

It also criticized the actions of governments that, in its view, yield to external pressures to the detriment of Latin American integration, and highlighted the solidarity shown by Mexico and Nicaragua with the cause of the Cuban people.

The “Antonio Maceo” Patriotic Community highlighted the legacy of Fidel Castro and his teachings on defending ideas and historical memory as essential elements for peoples.

As part of the events commemorating the revolutionary leader’s birth centenary, the organization invited resident Cuban families and friends of the Revolution to a gathering scheduled for Friday at 6:00 p.m. local time to pay tribute to Fidel.

A century after his birth, Cubans residing in Nicaragua also reaffirmed their readiness to continue denouncing the U.S. blockade and sanctions against Cuba, and to defend the Caribbean nation’s sovereignty.
