Georgia hits record watermelon export to Russia

Tbilisi, Aug 23 (Prensa Latina) Georgian watermelon exports to Russia reached an all-time high for bilateral trade in July, totaling $766,500, according to the South Caucasus nation's customs authority. In monetary terms, shipments doubled the level seen in July 2025; Russia was the primary buyer of the Georgian fruit during the month in question, accounting for 72 percent of all watermelon exports.

The remaining volume was sent to two other destinations: Armenia accounted for 25 percent of watermelon exports, while the other three percent went to Belarus.

In the summer of 2025, Russia resumed watermelon imports from Georgia following a hiatus.

It also resumed purchases of Georgian grapes in May 2026 after a break, and in April of this year, it restarted walnut purchases from the Caucasian country, increasing imports of that product to a record high of nearly seven million dollars.
