The newspaper’s editorial described the decisions made by the new Foreign Minister, Omar Bula—authorized by President Abelardo De la Espriella—as a worrying shift toward a specific type of extremism.

“There is no technical or diplomatic management here, but rather a clear objective: keeping President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu happy. (…) In the process, principles that our country has long defended are being betrayed,” the media outlet noted.

It pointed out that the recognition of Israel’s alleged “sovereignty” over the Golan Heights is difficult to comprehend.

“The UN Security Council declared that decision null and void and without international legal effect. In other words, the international legal system—which Colombia has ratified on several occasions and which is part of the Constitution—states that Israel does not possess that sovereignty,” it emphasized.

It also warned about Bula’s announcements regarding a potential withdrawal from the International Criminal Court, noting that Marco Rubio—a key figure in the Trump administration—is waging a public crusade against the high court, seeking to undermine its authority to ensure impunity in the cases it investigates.

“Why is Colombia joining that group of conspirators against an international justice system that took so much effort to build?

It is worth remembering that the court investigates the four gravest crimes against humanity: genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and the crime of aggression.”
