China highlights trade and investment expansion with SCO countries

Beijing, Aug 27 (Prensa Latina) China highlighted the growth of trade with other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), with exchanges increasing from US$12.1 billion in 2001 to US$523.5 billion in 2025.

Ministry of Commerce spokesperson Huang Ling reported that this trade will account for eight percent of China’s total foreign trade in 2025.

Huang noted that exports to other SCO members of the so-called “new three products” and through cross-border e-commerce have seen rapid growth.

“For 25 years, China has upheld the Shanghai spirit, worked with other SCO members to promote development and share benefits, and achieved significant results in regional economic cooperation,” she stated. She stated that Chinese investment in other member countries also increased to $3.3 billion by 2025.

Chinese capital spanned sectors such as oil and gas, minerals, infrastructure, new energy, automobiles, and the chemical industry, Huang specified.

According to the official, China invested in the construction of more than 30 economic and trade cooperation zones to contribute to strengthening the industrial capabilities of member countries and stimulating their economies and employment.

Huang affirmed that Beijing will continue to implement an action plan to promote high-quality development of economic and trade cooperation with SCO member states, observers, and dialogue partners.

The initiative includes promoting trade and investment liberalization and facilitation, developing trade in services and digital trade, deepening cooperation in industrial and supply chains, and boosting regional economic ties.
