International Book Fair in Cuba pays tribute to Fidel Castro

Camagüey, Cuba, Aug 28 (Prensa Latina) The International Book Fair in Camagüey 2026 opens its doors today with a look at Cuban culture, dedicated to the centenary of Fidel Castro and the value of reading.

Considered the largest urban park in Cuba, the Casino Campestre welcomes from this day the opening of the literary event, conceived as a meeting space between books, authors, readers and various artistic manifestations.

This edition is dedicated in a special way to the centenary of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, along with the 65th anniversary of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and also recognizes Russia, as well as writers from different generations.

The figure of Fidel Castro occupies a central place in the theoretical program, with the panel “History and validity” and the presentation of the book Fidel: Pedagogue of the Revolution, proposals that address his thought and influence from the historical and cultural perspective.

The program also includes an approach to the relationship between Jose Marti and Fidel Castro, through the conversation “Martí en Fidel Castro Ruz”, the presentation of How much of Martí is there in Fidel Castro and the analysis of collections dedicated to the works of Fidel and Raúl Castro.

The Russian presence brings an international dimension to the fair, with panels on its culture and literature, presentations of works by Fyodor Dostoyevsky and an audiovisual exhibition of animation and Russian cinema, among other proposals.

For the youngest, the Children’s Pavilion brings together book presentations, oral narratives, participatory games, contests, reading promotion and artistic activities, in a program that seeks to bring the literary universe closer to children and families.

The meeting also incorporates spaces dedicated to comic art, digital literature, poetry, storytelling, music and exchange between creators, with editorial presentations and debates on cultural and educational issues.

The social dimension of the fair goes beyond its main venues through a side event that includes activities in hospitals, children’s homes, centers for the elderly and prisons, along with sales and book presentations.
