Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister denounces US media campaign

Havana, Aug 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio denounced that the United States is funding press articles to justify military aggression on Cuba, amidst military movements in Puerto Rico.

In a message posted on the social network X, the diplomat noted that “the trending topic is the military movements and maneuvers in Puerto Rico,” but warned that none of these articles contain “any reflection on the legality of a criminal act such as the one being promoted.”

Fernandez de Cossio criticized the fact that these texts omit any mention of a possible pretext to justify the aggression, the resulting loss of life and destruction, the scenario of regional instability it would generate, and—”much less—the deeply immoral nature of the scheme.”

The deputy minister denounced that the US government complements this campaign with “opinion pieces by hired liars,” whose task is to inflate “the fallacy that Cuba constitutes, or could constitute, a threat to the US.”

He underscored that such a claim is absurd given the military might of the United States: the planet’s leading nuclear power, possessing 5,200 nuclear warheads, 11 aircraft carriers, bases or a military presence throughout the hemisphere, and powerful intelligence agencies.

Fernandez de Cossio also recalled that Washington has “the capacity to intimidate almost any countr economically and commercially,” making the attempt to portray Cuba as a threat even more ridiculous.

The deputy minister concluded that the US media campaign seeks to “convince the public of the inevitability, natural materialization, and eventual execution of military aggression against Cuba,” and warned of the danger posed by this propaganda escalation.
