Syria reopens embassy in Libya after 14 years

Damascus, Aug 31 (Prensa Latina) Syria reopened its embassy in Libya after a closure that lasted more than 14 years, restoring diplomatic ties and supporting the Syrian community there.

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani led the diplomatic mission’s reopening ceremony, accompanied by Libyan Acting Foreign Minister Taher al-Baour and other officials and diplomats accredited in Tripoli.

SANA reported that the embassy’s reopening is part of Syria’s actions to reorganize and restore its missions abroad, as well as to ensure support for its citizens residing outside the country.

During their visit, Al-Shaibani and Al-Baour also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation and mechanisms for reactivating the Syrian-Libyan Joint Higher Committee, conceived as a framework to promote economic, development, and other exchanges in areas of common interest.

Al-Shaibani’s visit is part of Damascus’s efforts to broaden its foreign relations and strengthen its ties with Arab countries.
