Brazil: Prosecutor’s Office to weigh in on report regarding Moraes

Brasilia, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) Justice Andre Mendonca of the Supreme Federal Court has granted Brazil's Prosecutor General's Office (PGR) five days to issue an opinion on a police report that mentions his colleague, Alexandre de Moraes.

The decision concerns a document prepared by the Federal Police (PF) based on an analysis of the cell phone belonging to former banker Daniel Vorcaro, who is under investigation in “Operation Compliance Zero” for alleged financial fraud linked to Banco Master.

The seal of secrecy on the investigative report—which also mentions Prosecutor General Paulo Gonet—was lifted this Tuesday, revealing new references found out by investigators while examining data extracted from Vorcaro’s device.

According to the PF, the former banker engaged in direct exchanges with a contact saved in his phone under the name of Justice Alexandre de Moraes.

The report states that the contact identified as the magistrate used “view-once” messages and typed content into the phone’s notepad app, a practice that reportedly hindered the full recovery of the conversations.

Among the recovered messages is one in which Vorcaro tells the contact attributed to Moraes that he was trying to anticipate the investigators’ actions.

Mendonca, who is overseeing the case at the Supreme Federal Court, decided to request the Prosecutor General’s Office’s position before making further decisions regarding the report’s contents.
