Addis Ababa ranks second globally for climate resilience

Addis Ababa, Sept 9 (Prensa Latina) Addis Ababa has become the city with the second-highest climate resilience in the world—and the first in Africa—according to a report by the geospatial intelligence firm AlphaGeo, the capital's mayor, Adanech Abiebie, highlighted.

Writing on the social media platform X, Abiebie noted that this recognition underscores the Ethiopian capital’s growing leadership in global sustainability and environmental planning.

She explained that the report, presented by the predictive analytics platform, evaluated 72 major cities using its Climate Risk and Resilience Index. Chicago, in the United States, tops the list.

She stated that this ranking reflects Addis Ababa’s increasingly significant role in driving sustainable urban development and environmental planning, placing it at the forefront of global efforts to build climate-resilient cities.

The mayor congratulated the city and its residents on this recognition, describing it as a reflection of the city’s ongoing transformation and its growing contribution to the global sustainability agenda.

AlphaGeo, founded in 2022 by renowned Indian-American geopolitical strategist Parag Khanna, combines location and climate intelligence to help investors and corporations assess long-term geographic and climate risks.
