Jorge Mendez made these remarks at the opening of the United Economic BRICS Business Summit 2026, which featured speakers from Iran, Russia, Uganda, India, Ghana, and Nepal.
At the event, which Cuban Ambassador to this nation Juan Marsan and other members of the Cuban delegation to the BRICS Summit also attended, the Cuban minister further noted that the island remains committed to multilateralism, solidarity, and friendship among peoples.
The official denounced the difficult situation in his country caused by the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for over 60 years, recently tightened by an unprecedented energy siege enforced by Washington in violation of all international human rights regulations.
Nevertheless, the first deputy minister affirmed that the Cuban Government, even under such difficult circumstances, continues working toward the country’s development; he highlighted new economic measures aimed at boosting investment and private sector participation, always for the benefit of the people.
He advocated for further strengthening international cooperation and emphasized the need to seek solutions to foster greater relations and solidarity among nations in the face of current challenges.
Jorge Mendez subsequently participated in the session titled “Cuba in the BRICS Era: Unlocking New Opportunities for India-Cuba Trade, Investment, and Economic Cooperation.”
