Asadi made these remarks during a statement from his seat at the General Assembly plenary session, where he questioned the decision to allow Netanyahu to deliver a speech to member states.
“The United Nations was founded to maintain peace and uphold justice, not to provide a platform for war criminals to deliver speeches,” the diplomat stated.
Asadi also referred to the arrest warrant issued against Netanyahu by the International Criminal Court and maintained that the Israeli prime minister should appear before a court instead of taking the United Nations podium.
During Netanyahu’s speech to the General Assembly, dozens of delegations walked out of the hall in protest against Israel’s military actions in Gaza and its positions on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
According to reports, the protests were also linked to the continuation of military operations despite efforts to reach a ceasefire, the expansion of settlements and land confiscation in the occupied West Bank, as well as Israeli military actions in Syria and Lebanon.
Outside the United Nations headquarters, large groups of demonstrators also expressed their opposition to the Israeli leader’s address while the speech was taking place.
