The ambassador highlighted that, amidst this difficult situation, Mexico has been one of the countries providing it’s largest assistance to Cuba; he also acknowledged the unwavering solidarity shown toward the island by former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador (2018-2024), President Claudia Sheinbaum, and the Mexican people.
For her part, Lujan emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen the historic bonds of solidarity between the Mexican and Cuban peoples in order to confront the current challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean.
She also praised the work of the Cuban medical brigade in Mexico’s most remote areas, noting that their efforts reflect the humanistic spirit of the Cuban Revolution.
She described the blockade imposed by Washington on the Caribbean nation as a crime against humanity.
Threats from the Republican [candidate] and other coercive measures taken by Washington against the island have sparked condemnation and opposition from grassroots groups, governments, and political figures in Mexico and other nations around the world.
