Ukraine must pay for Black Sea attacks, Kremlin says

Moscow, Oct 2 (Prensa Latina) Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov justified the attacks Russia has been carrying out since mid-July against Ukraine's port infrastructure and vessels used to transport military hardware in the Black Sea.

“The Russian side is always open to negotiation, but the situation in the Black Sea is unique,” Peskov told reporters, adding that “Russia is responding to attacks initiated by Ukraine. Ukraine must pay for this, and there will be a response.”

The spokesman insisted that for Russia—which is continuing its special military operation—”it is extremely important to completely cut off maritime supplies of military hardware, ammunition, and fuel to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” “That is what we are doing and will continue to do,” he concluded.

Commenting on reports that Turkiye and the United Nations are working to organize negotiations with Russia and Ukraine regarding a cessation of hostilities in the Black Sea, Peskov said the Kremlin is “aware of that initiative” but that “there is nothing concrete” for the time being.

In this instance, the Kyiv regime shows no inclination toward comprehensive agreements, the spokesman noted, reaffirming that Moscow seeks peace, not a truce.
