A press release from ICAIC highlights the agreement, which marks the film’s initial steps following its official selection for the 43rd edition of the International Festival of the Federation of Sports Cinema and Television—set to take place in Milan, Italy—and paves the way for its participation in 16 other festivals with similar themes across five continents.
Premiering in 2025 and screened at the Havana International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, the film tells the story of Mijain Lopez. At the peak of a legendary career, he prepares to face his greatest challenge: winning his fifth Olympic gold medal at Paris 2024.
The documentary closely follows his journey, capturing the rigors of training, the emotions of his team, and memories of his hometown, Herradura, the synopsis notes.
Through the testimonies of his mother Leonor Nunez, his coach Raul Trujillo, and Mijain himself, the film reveals not only the undefeated champion but also a humble man shaped by sacrifice and love for his family.
It is a story of willpower, legacy, and greatness, told from the intimate perspective of a man who has defied time through sheer determination.
A co-production between ICAIC and the independent production company DAlma Films Producciones, the film also benefited from the collaboration of the Cuban Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER), the Ministry of Information and Social Communication, and the Cuban Ministry of Culture.
