The event paid tribute to guava—an emblematic fruit of national cuisine—and took place at the Museum of Colonial Art in Havana’s Old Section, coinciding with the International Day of Elderly People.
The gathering brought together older adults who presented a diverse array of traditional dishes, including sweets, jams, jellies, and pastes, the OHCH highlighted on social media.
Each culinary entry was the result of recipes jealously guarded in family memories and passed down through generations—often inherited from grandmothers or recovered from old household cookbooks.
Beyond its competitive nature, the contest established itself as a vital space for socializing, exchanging knowledge, and gaining social recognition, the organization emphasized on social media.
The initiative highlighted the pivotal role of older adults as bearers of experience and cultural values, while actively contributing to the preservation of the nation’s popular culinary heritage.
This activity is part of the international cooperation project “Consolidation of the Comprehensive Care Program for Older Adults,” carried out by the Havana Historian’s Office with the aim of fostering strategies for healthy aging and social participation in the area.
