The announcement is included in a joint statement issued after an emergency meeting of the alliance’s Political and Defense Strategic Committee, held in this capital to analyze recent events and threats to Saudi Arabia’s security.
The meeting agreed to appoint Mahmood, a retired Pakistani general, as the organization’s secretary-general for a three-year mandate.
Furthermore, the member countries decided to “proceed immediately with the practical implementation of joint defense commitments” and adopt the necessary measures to provide the agreed-upon military forces and capabilities, deploying them rapidly to Saudi Arabia in accordance with established agreements and the national laws of the three countries.
These measures aim to bolster military preparedness and integration and strengthen collective capacity to confront threats to the member States’ security.
The three countries also reaffirmed their “categorical rejection of any aggression or threat to the security and territorial integrity of the Kingdom.”
