A UN agency statement noted that the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) recorded 21,798 people, representing 3,633 families, displaced at least once between September 27 and October 3; this figure represents a 26 percent increase compared to the previous week.
About 6,474 people, grouped in 1,079 families, were displaced on October 4, while the total number of affected individuals surpassed 28,000 in eight days.
The IOM further noted that intense fighting has caused the displacement of more than 184,000 people between August 1 and October 4, mainly since early September.
The organization warned that displaced persons require food, shelter, and other basic services, as the resurgence of violence forces an increasing number of families to flee their homes.
IOM Director General Amy Pope called for guaranteed humanitarian access for those affected and demanded the international community enable humanitarian workers to address the population’s needs.
