The President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, recalled on the social network X a reflection by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, who defined October 10, 1868, as the beginning of a century of revolutionary combat.
For his part, Prime Minister Manuel Marrero stated that the Revolution initiated by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes 158 years ago is the same one that the Cuban people continue to defend today.
“The Cuban Revolution, which Céspedes began 158 years ago, is one and the same, as Fidel said,” Marrero noted while paying tribute to the initiators of the independence struggle, the historic generation of the Revolution, and those who currently preserve national sovereignty.
Roberto Morales, Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba’s Central Committee, also highlighted that the cry for freedom raised in 1868 found historical continuity in the revolutionary triumph of January 1959.
“That same love for the Homeland, for its sovereignty and independence, keeps the people united and faithful today to the glorious history of a country that firmly defends its dignity,” he stated.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez recalled that on October 10, 1868, Céspedes freed his slaves at the La Demajagua sugar mill and began the emancipatory process that culminated in the revolutionary triumph of January 1, 1959.
