Iran accuses CENTCOM chief of oil smuggling in Hormuz

Tehran, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), accused Brad Cooper, commander of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), of organizing oil smuggling operations through the Strait of Hormuz.

Rezaei told Press TV that these operations use small vessels to transfer oil to large tankers.

The official affirmed that Iranian forces strike between five and six of these boats every night.

Until those statements were released, neither Washington nor Abu Dhabi had commented on the accusations.

Responding to claims by US President Donald Trump that the strait remains open, Rezaei said Iran controls this strategic waterway.

Although both sides signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in June, sporadic clashes and disagreements on navigation through the Strait of Hormuz have complicated negotiations.
