Cuban film Neurotica Anonima among nominees to Goya Awards

Havana, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Cuban feature film "Neurotica Anonima" (Anonymous Neurotic) is among the nominees from 19 countries for Best Ibero-American Film at the Goya Awards.

The news made headlines in the European press.

The Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC) echoed it and reported that animated short film “Raptus,” by filmmaker Ivette Avila, won the Best Animated Short Film award at the Americas Film Festival of New York (TAFFNY).

“Neurotica Anonima,” directed by Jorge Perugorria -a 2024 National Film Award winner-, is based on the play of the same name written by and starring leading actress Mirtha Ibarra.

Ibarra, who boasts an enviable filmography, including “Adorables Mentiras” (Adorable Lies, 1991) and “Fresa y Chocolate” (Strawberry and Chocolate, 1993), told Prensa Latina that the film addresses two fundamental themes: the mistreatment of women and the preservation of the movie theater.

The film is about Iluminada (Mirtha Ibarra), a young woman from the countryside who leaves home to pursue her dream of becoming an actress. After her ambitions were thwarted, she trains as an arts instructor, but ends up working as an usher at an iconic movie theater.

The cast includes renowned Cuban artists such as Fernando Hechavarria as an architect, Osvaldo Doimeadios as the psychiatrist, Andrea Doimeadios as young Iluminada, and Nestor Jimenez as the delegate, among others.
