Trade unionist urges Dominican government to vote against US blockade

Santo Domingo, Oct 12 (Prensa Latina) Trade union leader Efrain Sanchez called for strengthening solidarity with Cuba and urged the Dominican government to vote in favor of the resolution demanding an end to the blockade imposed on the island by the United States.

Sanchez, Secretary of International Affairs for the *Unión Clasista de Trabajadores* (UCT) trade union confederation, told Prensa Latina that Cuba has never posed a threat to the United States or any other country; rather, it demonstrates its commitment to peace, cooperation, and the well-being of peoples.

He condemned Washington’s measures against the Caribbean nation and highlighted the Cuban people’s resilience in the face of the U.S. “maximum pressure” policy, while affirming that international solidarity would continue to stand with the island.

The leader highlighted Cuba’s track record of cooperation with other countries in key sectors such as education, health, and sports, and underscored its contributions to the training of Dominican athletes and professionals across various fields.

In this regard, he viewed the Cuban experience as a concrete expression of collaboration among peoples and an example of fraternity.

Sánchez insisted on the need for the Dominican Republic to support the resolution titled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba” at the United Nations; the resolution is set to be debated and put to a vote in the General Assembly on October 28 and 29.

Cuba hopes to once again secure majority support from the international community for this initiative, which is presented annually to the UN’s highest deliberative body.
