According to a statement from the Cuban Embassy in Mexico, the political party’s General Secretary, Hector Marin, described Fidel Castro as a giant of anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist, and anti-fascist thought and reaffirmed Cuba’s role as the vanguard in the struggle for a better world.
In the view of Olivia Garza, Vice President of the “Jose Marti” Association of Cubans Residing in Mexico, the leader “symbolizes the ethics and morality that every revolutionary should possess”; she also highlighted his qualities as a defender of just causes and a promoter of solidarity.
For his part, Carlos Ramirez, a member of the Popular Socialist Party’s national leadership, emphasized Castro’s contribution to Cuba’s historic solidarity with the peoples of the world and his example of consistency between thought and action.
Speaking at the gathering, Jose Angel Maury, Political Counselor at the Cuban Embassy, noted the importance Fidel Castro placed on maintaining a constant bond with the people and ensuring their preparedness, as well as his indispensable role in defending sovereignty and the Revolution.
Maury highlighted that Cubans find the principles needed to defend their sovereignty—in the face of challenges imposed by the U.S. government’s collective punishment of Cuba—within Castro’s body of work and thought.
He also expressed gratitude for Mexico’s solidarity with the Cuban people, noting that this bond of brotherhood is also a fruit of Fidel Castro’s legacy.
