“Cacerolazo” protest against Flavio Bolsonaro echoes across Brazil

Brasilia, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) A *cacerolazo*—a protest involving the banging of pots and pans—directed at presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro was heard in Brasilia and other cities minutes before his interview with TV Globo began.

Prensa Latina witnessed the noisy demonstration unfold in the administrative region of Aguas Claras, in the Federal District; residents in various buildings banged pots and other kitchen utensils to express their opposition to the Liberal Party (PL) candidate.

Videos shared on social media showed similar scenes in other Brazilian cities, following a call to action circulated by supporters of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who is seeking a fourth presidential term.

In addition to the banging of pots, songs supporting Lula could be heard—a show of backing for the president amidst the campaign for the presidential election runoff, scheduled for October 25.

The protest took place against a backdrop of intense political rivalry, both online and offline, as the forces backing both candidates seek to boost their mobilization efforts ahead of the vote.

A study by the analytics firm Bites, published by the newspaper *O Globo*, indicated that left-wing influencers saw a 783 percent increase in organic interactions on Meta platforms between October 4 and 11, compared to a 162 percent increase among right-wing influencers.

On Instagram, growth reached 1,195 percent for left-wing profiles and 241 percent for right-wing ones, according to the research, which tallied public interactions—such as reactions, comments, and shares—without measuring the total reach of the posts.
