DRC Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense and Veterans’ Affairs Guy Kabombo Muadiamvita, on behalf of his country, also urged his counterparts from the Great Lakes region to improve coordination in addressing security challenges, Actualite.CD reported.
During his participation in a Defense Ministers’ meeting of the regional Contact and Coordination Group’s member countries, held in Lusaka, Zambia, Muadiamvita emphasized the importance of rigorously following up on recommendations in this field, supported by a clear roadmap, defined responsibilities, and precise timelines.
The minister underscored during the meeting, which concluded this weekend, “Our Pact on Security, Stability and Development in the Great Lakes Region, our regional mechanisms, and the commitments we have freely signed will only be meaningful if they are effectively upheld.”
The meeting, focused on assessing a draft of standard operating procedures for the disarmament and reintegration of members of foreign armed groups, also addressed the situation in the DRC, given its regional implications.
