In a statement released on social media entitled “Cuba is not a threat; the blockade is the threat,” the organization expressed concern over the use of the United Nations headquarters to boost actions against the Caribbean nation, without considering all viewpoints or addressing the consequences of US sanctions on the population.
The group noted that any debate on the Cuban reality must include the effects of restrictions on access to food, medicine, fuel, and other essential resources, which, it affirmed, negatively affect the living conditions of families.
It also stated that a sincere dialogue requires respect, a willingness to listen, and the inclusion of diverse perspectives.
It emphasized that the United Nations should serve as a space for nations to come together in defense of peace and the right of every country to determine its own destiny.
The Nicaraguan organization also highlighted the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two peoples and its solidarity with Cuba, calling for respect for its sovereignty and the lifting of the economic and commercial measures imposed by Washington.
