Jabra Khoury honored in Jordan for his support of Cuba

Amman, Oct 23 (Prensa Latina) Luis Mariano Rodriguez, Cuba’s ambassador to Syria—who is also accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan—presented Jabra Khoury with the Medal and Plaque of Solidarity. The honor recognizes Khoury’s long-standing friendship and support for the Caribbean nation—support that, in the words of the honoree, was never motivated by economic interest.

During the ceremony, held in Amman, the diplomat highlighted the professional ties Khoury has maintained with the Cuban mission over the years.

Of Palestinian-Jordanian descent, Khoury was appointed Honorary Consul of the Republic of Cuba in Jordan via a decree from the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs, issued on February 20, 1998.

The ambassador underscored Khoury’s contributions, which include providing consular assistance to Cubans residing in Amman, promoting tourism to the island, and facilitating connections between companies and businesspeople to explore opportunities for trade and investment. He also acknowledged Khoury’s logistical support for visits by Cuban ambassadors and officials traveling from the diplomatic mission in Damascus, as well as his role in representing Cuba at events organized by the Jordanian Foreign Ministry and the diplomatic corps in Jordan.

Furthermore, Rodriguez highlighted Khoury’s defense of the image of the Cuban Revolution and his humanitarian commitment. These efforts helped strengthen relations—built on cooperation and mutual respect—between the two countries in areas such as education, culture, sports, science, and coordination within international organizations.

For his part, Khoury stated that his official relationship with Cuba began and ended with love and affection—sentiments he affirmed he would carry with him for the rest of his life. He highlighted Cuba’s contribution to the training of hundreds of doctors, pharmacists, and engineers from Jordan and Palestine, even during periods of severe economic hardship.
