Bukele posted on X, “These are not our men.”
An NGO delivered human remains at the airport, claiming they belonged to the four Salvadoran air technicians.
However, the remains actually belong to a child, to a man significantly taller than our air technicians, and an individual who was wearing part of a uniform from another military force, the message read.
The president added that among the remains were identification cards and military uniforms from other countries.
On October 18, four Salvadoran air technicians, members of the Gang Suppression Force (GSF), were ambushed by heavily armed criminal groups. Their current whereabouts remain unknown, the Armed Forces of El Salvador confirmed.
Following the incident, Bukele posted a message on his social media channels announcing the launch of a military operation to rescue the hostages and bring them home alive and unharmed.
