the names being considered to lead Brazil’s Defense Ministry, marking
a historic appointment for the institution.
Current Defense Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro proposed the
institution’s Secretary-General, Fredo, as a successor, as
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defines his next government team. Ji
According to O Estado de S. Paulo reports, cited by the UOL portal,
Mucio informed Lula that he does not intend to remain at the head of the Ministry and backed the candidacy of Fredo, who knows the
institution’s internal operations and maintains strong ties with its
key administrative structures.
The final decision, however, rests with the head of State, who will
assess the available options before announcing who will lead that
Ministry.
In her current role as Secretary-General of the Defense Ministry,
Fredo ranks among the institution’s top civilian officials, tasked
with coordinating national defense policies and managing the
government’s relationship with the Armed Forces.
