Addressing the faithful and pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square following the Angelus prayer on the Solemnity of All Saints, the pontiff highlighted the importance of the collaboration that made these humanitarian assistance operations possible. He expressed his wish that this gesture might inspire further efforts to put an end to the suffering caused by armed conflicts.
The Bishop of Rome entrusted those suffering the consequences of wars in various regions of the world to the Virgin Mary, Queen of Peace, and to all the Saints.
In his remarks, Leo XIV also noted the beatification—held in Savannah, in the U.S. state of Georgia—of Pedro de Corpa and four companions, religious members of the Order of Friars Minor who were killed in 1597.
The pontiff also referred to the Youth Olympic Games taking place in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, from October 31 to November 13, which feature athletes between the ages of 15 and 18. He emphasized that this is the first Olympic event to be held on the African continent, noting that, in addition to sports competitions, the program includes educational and cultural gatherings designed to promote Olympic values and foster understanding among young people from different countries.
Leo XIV remarked that sport serves as a sign of hope, and he extended his greetings and blessing to all the participants.
He also announced that a “Mission with the Poor”—an initiative promoted by the Friars Minor that places vulnerable individuals at the heart of its activities—will be held in Rome from November 8 to 15.
